The person
One guitar.
A whole lot of songs.
"Sound-design minor. Fifteen years in Logic Pro. Tenor in a barbershop quartet, veteran of more choirs than I can count."
I play guitar and I love to sing. That's been true for as long as I can remember. I studied sound design at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, graduating in 2010 — which mostly means I've spent a lot of hours in headphones thinking carefully about what sound does to a room.
I've sung in a barbershop quartet, in choirs, in churches, and in bars. The contexts are different, but the goal is the same: get the room together and keep it there. Music is one of the few things that can do that without asking for anything first.
Worship leading is the center of what I do. The bar sets are the other side of the same coin — songs that hold a room, played well, for people who want to be somewhere for a while.
The name
"Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn't he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it?"Luke 15:4
The shepherd goes after the one. That's the story. 99folks is for the ones who stayed — not forgotten, not left behind, but maybe in need of a song that acknowledges they're still out there. Music for the already-faithful. Songs that make the ordinary feel held.
